Yes Trespassing

Hailing from the legendary Muscle Shoals, AL, Yes Trespassing is a four-piece rock outfit adding new flavors to the Muscle Shoals sound and blowing minds across the Southeast. Trey Nichols (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Jonathan Mackey (Bass, Vocals), Dylan Johnson (Drums), and Emmett Redding (Guitar, Vocals), make up Yes Trespassing. The band formed in the midst of a pandemic and began arming themselves with material to share and tour with once things opened back up. Yes Trespassing is wasting no time making an impact in their region. Their single, Angelica, premiered on June 10th, 2021, the precursor to their debut EP, “When The Light Is Gone,” which released on July 3rd, 2021. Though they are just beginning to release content, the band has already begun playing shows in various states and cities, where crowds experience what one fan called a “wall of sound.” Yes Trespassing’s sound is heavily influenced by the 90’s and 2000’s rock movements, from alternative to grunge to even some heavier metal bands. Their songs emphasize the intertwining of instantly memorable melodies with thought-provoking lyrics that listeners easily relate to, while also providing a driving rhythm that demands head banging.

Their latest release “Atom Bomb” seems to start with high energy, but is actually a simmering build up to one of the most explosive bridges that Yes Trespassing has delivered on tape. Rhythm section Dylan Johnson and Jonathan Mackey create a driving pulse that leads your ears through every section. The song builds as if Jonathan Mackey and Dylan Johnson are driving the car with two caged beasts in the trunk, (Emmett Redding and Trey Nichols) scratching and begging to be unleashed. Finally at the peak of the ride, the beasts escape and unleash havoc while the car transforms into a two ton missile waiting to impact its target.

The band has only been a band for about a year, and have already played shows in notable venues around the southeast. Including “The Nick Rocks” “Saturn” both of which are in Birmingham, AL. Also playing the Alabama Music Hall of Fame during the W.C. Handy fest in Muscle Shoals, AL. Playing with notable artists such as Carver Commodore, In the Whale, The Burning Peppermints, Gentlemen’s Crow and much more. The band has also been featured in many radio interviews, podcasts, and recently even a magazine called “Flow”. The band is set to be in Austin, Texas for SXSW, and plans to tour even more of the country this year, also to release even more music that is in the works.

Yes Trespassing has taken the angst and energy of the past few years and distilled it down into a dynamic track full of manic urgency.

BELIEVERS – “Piecemeal”

If you plopped Arthur Russell into early 90s Manchester among The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, and the like, you might end up with something like Believers. Wesley Powell, the artist behind the name, throws a myriad of influences from house to ambient to krautrock into a pot and boils them down into some version of pop. Languid vocals drift atop layers of tight guitar harmony and synth swells, all undergirded by heavy bass riffs and drum machinery.

Piecemeal, Believers’ third release, is a transitional record that both marks the end of the collaborative era with brother Tyler and welcomes the next with Wesley going it alone, this time with a few more studio toys. On this album he nestles a variety of hefty subjects from materialism and globalization to aging and depression into dense stacks of intertwined rhythm and melody. What comes out is something welcoming and accessible, depicting that particular sense of melancholy that time and disillusionment instill.

THE OHIO WEATHER BAND

Born and raised in the small town of Alliance, Ohio, three lifelong friends – Corey King, Ray Lumpp and Derek Strata – began to make music together and decided to actualize their efforts by traveling and performing original material. Eventually they bought a van and occupied a house in Akron, OH and became The Ohio Weather Band. Blending a heady mix of folk, roots, and rock music, they write thoughtful songs with groove, harmony and a unique and powerful lead vocal.

The Ohio Weather Band’s new single, “Try For Me”, is a bluesy shuffle about the labor of love featuring Lee Turner, the keyboardist/organist from Darius Rucker’s band, and an emotive guitar solo in the bridge. Recorded by Cleveland, Ohio’s renowned producer, Jim Stewart at Superior Sound, this is their warmest and fullest sound ever, and heralds a new level of songwriting and musicianship on their upcoming full-length album. “Try For Me” is part of the band’s new full-length record tentatively scheduled for a late winter/early spring release.

The Ohio Weather Band has booked numerous DIY tours, played SXSW twice, opened up for The Felice Brothers, Charley Crockett and Sierra Ferrell, and made a lot of friends along the way. Closer to home, they’ve opened up for Sammy Hagar, Bon Jovi, Collective Soul, and Bastille at some of Ohio’s premier venues. Having finished principal recording on their new record, they’re preparing for a wild 2022 and beyond.

“Their newest single/video, ‘Try For Me’ is a soulful, whimsical ode…”

TATRO GORDON

After several years in Tennessee and a brief stop in Florida, Tatro (pronounced Tātro) Gordon’s family finally settled in Texas where he grew up in the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex and eventually relocated to Austin to be part of the music scene. It was there that he began to evolve his singer/songwriter roots into a sound that he refers to as Bold School.

On his debut release, Tatro combines elements of 80’s music, heartland, 90’s hip-hop, and outlaw country that is all tied together by his fearlessly personal songwriting. The collection of songs is an exploration of pain and acceptance of life’s most difficult times of which Tatro is no stranger. Despite the often heavy subject matter of his music, the compositions keep the music feeling hopeful and playful. The Bold School sound takes advantage of a vast collection of vintage gear in the recording studio while building atop 90’s influenced hip-hop beats.

Tatro Gordon’s self-titled album introduces a big dreamer of authenticity and simple, satisfying songwriting.

FOXHOUND

Foxhound is a four piece rock band from Phoenix, Arizona. Abel Magaña (guitar/backing vocals), Frank Rak (drums), and Ray Bowers (guitar/vocals) formed the band in 2016 and welcomed Bill Ciccone (bass) in 2019. Foxhound’s sound is Rock at its core, with a mixture of alternative, pop punk, indie, and hardcore elements.

The band’s latest release, a five song EP titled That Sinking Feeling, shows the growth of the group in songwriting and ability. Songs like One Car Pileup and Trees In The Forest sound reminiscent of early 2000’s Emo, complete with loud and driving instrumentals accompanied by catchy vocal melodies and raw lyrics. Songs like Wait and Two feature a more introspective vibe, with ambient verses opposite soaring and powerful choruses.

Foxhound has had the pleasure of having multiple songs featured on local FM radio stations, the latest being Wait and Trees In The Forest from their recent EP release. A newly released music video for One Car Pileup is soon to be followed by more video content for music from That Sinking Feeling, and Foxhound will be kicking off 2022 with a return to live performances after taking a hiatus from live shows in 2020 due to the global pandemic. Foxhound has spent this time writing loads of new material, with much to be released in the near future.

“That Sinking Feeling combines emotional hardcore with elements of punk and math to create an EP with a lot of variety.

ETHAN LARSH

Rooted in Waynesboro, PA, Ethan Larsh’s music is an amalgamation of classic and contemporary influences, some parts Lennon/McCartney, other parts Wilco and White Stripes, and then even Flaming Lips – Larsh tales all these components and makes them something uniquely his own. His band includes thunderous drumming by Tim Weller, and rolling bass lines by Sam Silbert.

The Emperor, Larsh’s upcoming second album, was inspired after listening to Wilco’s Summerteeth on repeat, due to it being the only cd in the car during a two week tour. Wanting to write something as powerful as “A Shot in the Arm”, Larsh began writing grandiose rock tunes, with the grit of a young Jack White, and the melodic sense of his hero, Harry Nilsson.

Larsh released Ethan Larsh Breaks Hearts, an ode to 70s power pop, in 2017, and has since released EP’s Dreams (under Eve Larsh) in 2019, and Drug Ballads in 2020. His sophomore full-length album, The Emperor, will be released in Nov 2021.

Whether it’s sweeping delay strokes at the ends of vocal lines or the deep and dark fuzzed out guitar bridge, Larsh understands something pretty simple in 2021: that rock probably needs a good kick in the ass.

ERIC WURZELBACHER

Rooted in Cincinnati, OH, Eric Wurzelbacher is an unexpected musician out of the midwest. Described by the Jazz Journal UK as a “foot- tapping mix of hard-bop impro and rock”, Eric has worked tirelessly for years to authentically combine the conciseness of rock and the freedom of jazz.

Eric’s fourth album to be released, “Idle Minds”, is a pandemic- inspired album that breaches new genreless territory. This album was created over the past two years as an ode to many solitary contemplations and realizations that many experienced throughout this unprecedented time. This project is the truest and most grounded version of Eric’s influences and life experiences to date, with soaring melodies on the saxophone that could be heard on a Soundgarden album, to quirky, intricate interactions between the other band members that resemble the sonic landscapes of a small jazz ensemble, such as The Bad Plus.

Eric started making his national mark after playing at the Newport Jazz Festival in 2019. After touring and creating music for years completely self-driven, Eric is excited to join the ‘Golden Mean Studios’ record label with the release of the new album and begin to spread his music to further, uncharted territory.

If you’re a jazz fan and looking for something that straddles the line between old school and new school, definitely check out Idle Minds.

Big Takeover

Wurzelbacher’s unforgettable melodic explorations on the saxophone make the track.”

HALF CATHOLIC

Hailing from the humble city of Rockford, IL, Half Catholic is a 4-piece indie pop group with an affinity for the classics and an appreciation for the contemporary. Singer/guitarist John Tallman and drummer Jacob Verble formed the band in early 2020 before adding bassist Daniel Edmunds and lead guitarist Hayden Sweet to complete the lineup.

After writing and recording dozens of demos and fine-tuning their sound, the group released their first single and music video in the spring of 2021. “Slow Down” is a modern doo-wop romp featuring walls of guitars and bittersweet backing vocals, sometimes veering towards the psychedelic. Their next single, “What’s Good Is Gone,” released in the fall of 2021, is a sentimental and straightforward power-pop tune that examines the heartache of a friendship that has fallen out.

Half Catholic has been actively performing at outdoor events, DIY spaces and dive bars in the midwest since the summer of 2021, with plans to continue indefinitely. New songs are always in the works, with the goal of a full-length album release next year. Until then, the group will be releasing their singles and music videos and playing at a venue near you.

BOB FLEMING & THE CAMBRIA IRON CO.

Often times lines are blurry. With ‘genre bending’ being its own genre these days, it’s hard to know what’s an Instagram hashtag and what’s real, pure, American music. Bob Fleming and the Cambria Iron Company are a breath of fresh air in a world of stuffy prepackaged “alternative country”, “modern southern rock” and “cow punk”.

Bob, Dawn, Brannden, Ryan and Ben, are the real deal. Spending countless nights on the road over the past four years, the saddle worn trucker persona comes honestly. The seamless blending of punk, southern rock, and singer songwriter sensitivity, sets this 5 piece apart from their peers, without question.

Based out of Charlotte NC, the Cambria Iron Company brings the heartfelt rock-‘n’-roll of a working poor south, and the fiery idealist lyrics of the best punk Bands. Onto their second full band release “remnants” they’re poised to do it again with this thoughtful and superbly honest vision of the American landscape through the eyes of those who live it.

In this day and age, it’s refreshing to hear a band rocking the fuck out with sheer abandon.

GOOF

Forged in a crucible of San Francisco fog, steep hills, and even steeper rent, Goof is a grunge tinged punk trio. Led by songwriter and guitarist Ahmed Amer Elsayed, Goof’s music draws from a range of influences and combines distorted buzzsaw guitar with melodic bass lines. Like the Egpytian music Ahmed grew up with, Goof’s lyrics are about real, serious issues sung with uplifting and driving melodies.

Goof’s debut album “Kill ‘Em All” sees them coming out of the underground swinging. It chronicles a period of time during Ahmed’s journey from Egypt to San Francisco and his pursuit to create art and achieve happiness. Close friend Taylor Martin was brought in to handle drum duties bringing with her a metal influence and a level of drumming rarely heard in punk music. “Kill ‘Em All” was engineered, mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley (Jeff Rosenstock, Deafheaven, Loma Prieta, Gouge Away) at The Atomic Garden in Oakland, CA.

Since forming in early 2019, Goof has quickly rolled onto the Bay Area music scene on nothing but charm and their own ambition. They found themselves opening for punk legends Agent Orange and The Avengers and playing iconic Bay Area venues like Slim’s (RIP) and 924 Gilman before even having a practice space to call their home. That momentum was halted by a little pandemic problem but with the world opening back up, Goof is poised to explode back onto the scene armed with a new album and over a years worth of practice and pent-up energy.

“..plenty of pent-up energy”.

New Noise Magazine

“Goof don’t put up with any crap.”

Rebel Noise

Along with the full-fledged intensity of the music, Kill ‘Em All features plenty of bold social commentary, touching on the more sarcastic side of society.

V13

“The music captures the blind, senseless chaos and violence of war, with its angular guitar and pounding drums.

FORESTER

Forester, the indie/electronic solo project of El Paso, TX native Austin North, isn’t easy to describe—his music is at times influenced by acts like Boards of Canada, Radiohead, James Blake and Frank Ocean in its emotional palette, and continues to evolve and develop with each subsequent release. North, with his background in jazz guitar and affinity for effect pedals, uses almost entirely analog gear and keeps song structures more loose and linear than one might expect, making for a direct and unique listening experience.

His upcoming record, “Honey I’m Home”, is primarily composed of elements of indie rock, ambient music, singer-songwriter, and jazz, and his careful use of vocoder effects, a pedalboard that weighs more than him and vintage gear are all part of what keeps people on their toes when listening. The record, inspired by North’s partner, is full of deep and intense feelings, both of love and of the anxieties that are inherent in it. Recorded primarily on a Yamaha CP20 keyboard, North composed guitar accompaniments where needed and took risks laying his songwriting out so bare and focused

Forester’s solo live show goes either one of two ways, and it’s no simple act—it either features heavy bass and drum machines, along with soaring vocals, guitar and analog synthesizers, or features North balladeering on his electric keys alone. He has released five records as Forester in 2021, after putting out his debut in March of 2020. He embarked on four solo tours in the West Coast, Northwest and Southwest US from December 2019 to March 2020 to promote the release of the record, before the pandemic. North’s full band, Sleepspent, released multiple singles in Summer 2021, have opened up for artists such as Cold War Kids, Blue October, and Jim Ward, having developed a strong fanbase throughout the western half of the US through their 3+ years of consistent on-and-off touring before COVID.

“Forester’s emotional lyrics and captivating instrumentation make him stand out from the crowd.
