Little Visits Establishes Break Out Sound On Debut Single ‘Tomorrowtown’

Formed in a small suburb of Detroit, MI, Little Visits is the brainchild of alt-pop anti-hero Noah de Leon. Comfortably blending programmed drum beats and sparkling synths with skillful guitar riffs and his smooth, saccharine vocals, de Leon is not afraid of wearing a broad array of influences on his sleeve – even if it means paving a fresh, unfamiliar road for listeners. His leading efforts are supported by various collaborators & band members from the Detroit area, giving a full-fledged, technicolor live interpretation to his sleekly-produced studio cuts.

The debut single ‘Tomorrowtown‘ explores the conflicting excitement of young love that feels as familiar as it does nerve-racking & unexpected – not unlike the song’s multicolored instrumental landscape, which marries soft-strumming guitar layers reminiscent of ‘Bends’-era Radiohead and a driving electro-pop-rock backbeat. ‘Tomorrowtown‘ is the first of multiple singles to be released this year under the Little Visits moniker.

“‘Tomorrowtown’ feels like an entire year of writing – it originally came from a guitar line and hook I wrote right before new year’s day leading into 2020. I was feeling hopeful about my future, both in terms of music and a newly-budding relationship I was in at the time. However, throughout the course of the next 6 months, my world started to crumble from the inside out – first in my ability to go out on the road to perform, and shortly after in being able to keep someone special close to me as the world outside pulled us apart. The lyrics of the song spilled out of me in almost real-time. The first verse was inspired by that blind, unstoppable hope you feel at the beginning of something exciting – and I think the music reflects that a lot. The choruses/latter verse take on this darker, anxious tone of your self-consciousness when you can’t help but watch things fall apart in front of you.

Noah first found his footing in songwriting during his teenage years in the emo-rock outfit Gone By Sunset, who went on to amass a dedicated online following, consistently sell out shows in their home state, and enjoy multiple dates on the legendary Vans Warped Tour. This small slice of success found Noah looking for bigger stages and exploring new genres, hopping around as a musician-for-hire for the next few years to Michigan greats such as Jax Anderson (Neon Gold Records), Shortly (Triple Crown Records), and Leland Blue. Little Visits serves as the primary creative project for Noah, formed over a decade in studios and on the road, and a lifetime love for a perfect pop song.

“There’s certainly always a place for thoughtful pop songs in the world, and Little Visits is primed to take the lead on giving life to these types of tracks.”

Tuned Up

“A powerful pop number that radiates a Gen-Z aesthetic, the track will also resonate with fans of INXS and early Radiohead.”

The Joeys Fuse Retro Rock With Modern Pomp and Flare

In a time and space where rock music is settling for a more subtle and cerebral future, The Joeys are reminding lifelong listeners about its rich heritage, creating a full throttle live rock n roll throw back sound with a modern flare that few young bands are able to achieve.

Originating from Phoenix, AZ, The Joeys display a mastery of both traditional and modern rock styles with their shape-shifting sonic framework, alternating from punk rock to roots, rockabilly and blues. Comprised of Dean Cheney (Guitar/Vocals), Luci Cormany (Bass/Vocals) and Hayden Lamm (Drums), their sound is enmeshed in a world of variety, their strength lies in their diverse production styles, and with each release there exists an aura of innovativeness.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2019 with the gripping “Phantom Bride of 13 Curves”, they have been able to demonstrate their deep appreciation and understanding of rock history with each release by lacing cinematic story-telling with a thrilling blend of bold studio captured live energy.

In 2020 they released their debut EP “Punks From Outer Space” showcasing growth in terms of their storytelling and production styles. There’s a lot of frenzy and ecstasy sprinkled all over the EP with even more live energy prowess and more urgent songwriting; Dean Cheney’s vocals draw the listener in from the start of each track with the band pushing their chemistry to new heights and solidifying The Joeys’ trademark sound. The record is filled with truly electrifying tunes.

A career-affirming moment for The Joeys was in late 2019 when they won Alice Cooper’s Proof is in the Pudding competition. As a result, the band played an opening slot to a sold out Celebrity Theater during Cooper’s Christmas Show. Along with playing several other festivals (including; 2020 AZ Rockabilly Bash, 2019 Lake Havasu Rockabilly Reunion, 2018 Mesa Music Festival, 2018 Phoenix Comic Fest) The Joeys’ music has also been featured on the nationally syndicated Rockabilly & Blues Radio Hour.

Their latest single, “Dangerous Dreams” is a straight forward rocker about the adrenaline rush of living dangerously. Drawing inspiration from 80s British rockers like Billy Idol and the Cult, it’s another genre-defying step forward for a band to watch, with no limits to how far they can push their momentum and grow their fanbase.

Combining rockabilly swing, surf guitar flourishes, big drum fills, and a mysterious, funky bass line, the song is a blistering exercise in how to properly craft rock and roll.

The Firnats Create Cathartic, Introspective Post-Punk On New EP

Initially started as a project between two friends in Herndon, VA, The Firnats crafted their unique gloom-indie sound in the DMV’s hole-in-the-wall bars and DIY basements. The band has since grown from two members to five while establishing themselves in Richmond, VA. Kurtis Kunkel on drums and Griffin Low on bass has resulted in a rhythm section that both bolsters and weaves its way around Sean Flanagan’s vehement vocals and whimsical guitar riffs. Chris Castro’s errant guitar playing and Hapa Siuhengalu’s harmonious keys flirt between pervasive atmospheres and subtle melodies, rounding out the sound of the group.

The Firnats 4th musical project Toward a Beacon, illuminates the evolution of the band’s music and presents a subtle shift away from previous work. Although the 50s doo-wop and 2000s indie influences remains on the EP, Toward a Beacon is discordant, unbashful, and ripe with post-punk tendencies. Lush instrumentals carry the listener from invigorating high points to trembling low points. Allegorical lyrics and a baritone voice paint portraits of a grim, yet hopeful, world. Toward a Beacon exudes a newfound maturity from the ever-evolving Firnats.

“This EP speaks to me pretty personally. When I was a kid in Korea, I grew up in somewhat of a fanatical religious environment, where God was supposed to be the answer to everything. Exorcisms, speaking in tongues, and all-day worship sessions were pretty much a weekly thing for me. As I grew older and more agnostic I kind of thought, ‘Hey, maybe God isn’t what I’ve been told it is’. I think this EP draws a bit from those experiences. At the end of the day, no matter what they’ve gone through, human beings have this unique ability to create their own hope, and that’s how I think humanity has managed to survive. For me, hope is God, God is love, and love is ubiquitous. And that’s all that really matters.”

The Firnats have toured extensively up and down the east coast, spaced apart by two full-length album releases. Known for their ambitious live performances and DIY mentality, the band shows no signs of slowing down.

“Lush instrumentals carry the listener from invigorating high points to trembling low points. Allegorical lyrics and a baritone voice paint portraits of a grim, yet hopeful, world. Toward a Beacon exudes a newfound maturity from the ever-evolving Firnats.”

Paco Is Desperate Refine Their Redemptive, Bold Sound On New EP “Glow”

Paco Is Desperate! is a four piece independent rock band typically seen as falling under the umbrella of emo, post hardcore, and alternative rock. Stockpiling influences across the genre spectrum from bands like Thursday, Coheed and Cambria, and Taking Back Sunday, the group hails from Toledo, OH, a hometown that has birthed iconic bands like Citizen and Secret Space.

Following a vicious battle with drug addiction, frontman Ashlee Ryan Nunley decided it was time for a change. Having gotten clean, he chose to divert his energy toward creativity instead of self destruction. The band’s lyrics stem from Nunley’s struggles with addiction, depression, and anxiety. Musically their sound is bold, brooding, and unafraid to take risks – earning the band a fanbase that has grown from a few dozen friends to thousands of followers across the world.

After dropping freshman album Unraveled in 2019, the group revamped its lineup and added Handguns singer Taylor Eby as manager. Set out to develop a more mature, cohesive sound, the band tapped Steven Warstler (Secret Space, Mat Kerekes) to produce their upcoming EP, anticipated to be the band’s first major release.

In the next 5 years the band hopes to develop their sound with a focus on standing out, stellar live performances, and building their own legacy amongst their contemporaries and predecessors. Their talent, passion, and hunger has all the potential to make them one of the defining acts of the new era.

“Glow” exists in a dark and dense, emotional headspace, one a listener can get totally enveloped in like they’re on another planet.

Ciarra Fragale Harnesses Heartbreak Style Soul On Self-Titled LP

Ciarra Fragale is an indie pop singer/songwriter, producer, and actor from NY’s Hudson Valley. By blending the nostalgic traditions of songwriting with unique new-wave sensibilities, she creates a refreshing sound all her own. In addition to making her own music, Ciarra has also composed many works for theater and film.

Ciarra’s Fragale’s newest self-titled LP is her best, most cohesive work to date. Ranging from Motown inspired heartbreak pop to modern and cerebral indie rock, Ciarra creates a distinct sonic world that allows her to display what makes her artistry so special. Pounding keys, angular guitars, and steady driving beats grace these buoyant and emotive tracks, with Ciarra’s one of a kind vocals gliding in and out of smooth and sweet harmonies showcasing her masterful musicianship and songwriting prowess.

“My 3rd LP, Ciarra Fragale (written & produced by me) is an album that encompasses the last 18 months of my life, and is an album that feels the most “me.” It feels really good to push the envelope, this is not a timid record. I know way more now than I did when I was making the previous records, both as an artist, as a producer, and as a woman.”

In 2019 after a heavy year of touring both full band and solo, Ciarra relocated to her current home in Western Massachusetts. Since living here she has written and produced many projects–including her 3rd LP, a record that “perfectly encapsulates” the last 18 months of Ciarra’s life. Mastered by Curtis Roush of The Bright Light Social Hour, the electrifying self-titled album is set to release on July 2, 2021.

“It’s a more confident work than her previous releases, showing off an impressively elastic range to her songwriting and soul-baring honesty to her performances.”

Under The Radar

“The new single “Shapeshifter” wraps around your heart and comes alive with the spirit of an ’80s pop ballad.”

BTR Today

“Musically, there’s not only reverence for her pain but a shedding of layers: from her throaty chirps to the soulful textures, it’s all about liberation.”

DINNER TIME Are “Leveling Up” On New Album ‘Halfway Down’

DINNER TIME have leveled up on their new LP ‘Halfway Down’. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, DINNER TIME is a 5 piece band fusing genres of indie pop, nu-funk, slacker garage rock, and psychedelic music. Founded by lifelong friends, Alejandro, Andrew, London, Ian, and Chan, DINNER TIME offers a haven from the monotony in life with appetizing moods of the surf, sand, and sun, all in a coincident echo and chorus. In a leisurely, yet rowdy essence, DINNER TIME transports you into a mood only satiated by backyard hangs, chilled beverages, and mellowing out to a sunset with your best friends. Trademark uber-chorus guitars plunk and quack over tight soul meets pseudo-jazz breaks and grooves, all creating an atmosphere for short vignette style vocals that paint with broad strokes and allow you to enter a new world of aesthetics with each track.

LISTEN TO NEW LP ‘HALFWAY DOWN’

Halfway Down‘, the latest record from DINNER TIME presents a darker contrast to the group’s previous work, a small departure from their established sound, and growth as a result of collaborative spirit and experimentation. Having received internet praise for their debut self-titled record (featuring the single ‘Walden Park’), DINNER TIME are in no mood to slow down or get distracted by the attention, and ‘Halfway Down‘ is a testament to that focus and their inevitable staying power.

Although we’ve received attention from the past record it doesn’t phase us too much. It honestly just feels the same, working most of the time and trying to write songs better than the last, to write songs that we feel proud about and want to show to others.”

Fueled by inquisition, curiosity, and entertaining new ideas, DINNER TIME has redefined their methods and means for songwriting and recording with their latest work. In a warble of intuition, effort, and the occasional hangover, ‘Halfway Down‘ was conceived.

“This next record will have the same “DINNER TIME” charm but it may get a little strange at times, a good kind of strange. It’s been a lot of fun making these new songs as a collective more so than individually. We haven’t felt any pressure to write another “Walden Park”, or anything like that. Almost the opposite, we feel pretty well encouraged to experiment a bit and have fun.”

DINNER TIME trace a new direction steeped in nostalgia, mysteries of the unknown, and perspective-evoking material. Originally starting as an inside joke about “leveling up” with their new work, the band has actually accomplished just that; a record that pushes creative boundaries without losing what makes the band so unique in the first place.

“Halfway Down is definitely a little darker than our previous work, and a little less straight-forward. We would joke a lot about “leveling up” – striving to get better at our instruments, one-up each other a bit, write better lyrics, etc., and that had a huge effect on how this new album developed.”

In a confluent pushback and acceptance to routine loneliness, anxiety, and disillusionment, ‘Halfway Down’ is sure to be thought provoking, open to interpretation, and intrigue. Look for DINNER TIME to break out from the underground into more concrete industry circles as the pandemic winds to a close and the band hits stages across the country once again.

We Speak English Good

We Speak English Good is one of the fastest growing podcasts in the world of independent music scene. Covering slice of life topics ranging from professional, creative, and day to day experiences, host Mike Ep is one of the foremost underground voices in music interviewing, finding the essence of each musician with his unique questions and genuine conversation style. We Speak English Good is both personal and informative, and has featured some of the hardest working musicians in the industry, from Grammy winners to hometown heroes (most notably Ari O’Neal, John Sparrow of Violent Femmes, and Dave Katz of Ekoostik Hookah).

Hosted by Mike Ep, a working musician, husband and father, We Speak English Good is broadcast from Toledo Ohio via Twitch. Mike Ep started We Speak English Good originally as a candid friends chat to cover random and more fun-loving topics. As the show grew to specifically cover music, that original energy continued to grow and is what gives the podcast it’s homey charm, keeping the rhythm of the show light and fast while covering heavy and serious topics at time.

“As the show developed I realized that my experience as a musician and as someone that struggles with mental illness was a factor in a true connection with my guests. A great example of this is when I interviewed bassist Bubby Lewis (Jhene Aiko, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco) I was able to connect right away with our struggles with childhood obesity and how touring is emotionally taxing especially when one must leave their family behind to do so. The conversation was great and super insightful because I have walked, partly, in Bubbies shoes.”

Mike Ep’s voice is unlike any others in the industry, his passion for fellow musicians comes through with each episode, and most importantly his ability to listen and key in on what’s most interesting and important to his guests makes We Speak English Good one of the most engaging music podcasts, and is certainly why they have cracked the Apple Top 100 music podcasts and reached over 1 million downloads.

With hitting 1 million overall downloads, being featured in the top 100 music podcast world wide, and being awarded an artist grant the show is on track to keep moving forward. WSEG has consistently shown growth since its inception and with the way things are the sky’s the limit. I am very proud of what the show has become but more importantly, I am proud of what the show has helped me to become.”

After, growing up in the Midwest, Mike, moved to San Diego California where he lived and performed for over 13 years. While in California he met and fell in love with fellow musician and writing partner, Reina Mystique. After, a needed change of pace, Mike and Family, took to the road by “VanLifing” and performing across America landing back in the Midwest where they currently live and perform. Mike Ep has shared the stage with many great artists in his time, and his resume boasts festival appearances at SXSW, California Roots Festival, and the One Love Music Fest.

Recently the We Speak English Good evolved into a videocast on Twitch, expanding the show to an interactive experience that allows viewers to ask question, participate in games, show off talents in an online open mic, and form a fast passionately growing community. We Speak English Good recently reached 1 million downloads, has been in the Top 100 Music Podcasts worldwide, (including the #29 in Armenia, #49 in Turkey and #30 in Mongolia), and has received a grant from The Toledo Arts Commission. As they continue to receive funding and sponsorships, We Speak English Good is becoming more established as one of the most legitimate underground music podcasts, and is on track to become Mike Ep’s source of living to support his family.

I love what the show has become. Its become a playground for all of my interest ands hobbies.”

The Boxcar Suite Rails Against A Society Obsessed With Commodifying Everything

The Boxcar Suite is a rock and roll band from Dayton, OH formed around the release of songwriter/guitarist Tim Pritchard’s solo effort It Shall Be Revealed in 2012. Pritchard and bassist Phil Caviness previously played in Flyaway Minion and later the short-lived project Floods. As the latter deconstructed, Pritchard and Caviness recruited drummer Trevor Bell and began working as a trio before Caviness brought in former Professors bandmate Tony Moore to play guitar.

The newly formed band used It Shall Be Revealed, an affair heavily steeped in “Cosmic American Music” as a foundation to venture into territory more informed by 70s stadium rock and 90’s power pop revival. Across the Vast & Deep (2014) is an eclectic debut with the group exploring sounds on a mid-fi journey co-piloted by lauded engineer and producer Darryl Robbins (Motel Beds, Overthought Musik, Guided by Voices).

A distinct sound emerged as the band began to work more collaboratively and Pritchard took an active role as engineer and producer while building out a project studio. The Boxcar Suite aesthetic became synonymous with dueling guitar leads, a tight rhythm section and stacked harmonies over what was still very song-oriented music. This fully realized version of the group was captured on Further in and Farther Out (2018) and described as “cosmic power pop for the Age of Aquarius” with a self-proclaimed lineage including The Flying Burrito Brothers, Big Star, Teenage Fanclub and Superdrag.

As the band gigged for Further in and Farther Out, they also found themselves routinely locked away in their warehouse studio space escaping an increasingly tumultuous time in both socio-politically and with regard personal struggles. It was a darker period, yet cheered on by “a lot of good times” spent writing, recording, and indulging in extra-curricular activities at the “the space”, an old warehouse at which The Boxcar Suite and many other Dayton area bands have emerged and/or called home . The music grew more to-the-point and began to draw on elements of punk and glam. Every Side of the Abyss is a new iteration of the band wielding a formidable soundtrack for the most bizarre time most of us can recall. It’s a melodic, crunchy, guitar driven record, and while overall more concise, the band still wanders on and off the path, incorporating what Pritchard and Moore refer to as the “jangle twang” combination of 12 string and fuzz guitars as well as presenting the groups most blithering altered states yet. The album rails against the pitfalls of a society obsessed with commodifying everything, including rock and roll records, but takes joy in the ability to still make them happen.

“Moving from urgent punk to 60s, Byrds-esque harmonies with ease, The Boxcar Suite craft songs with the energy of a band that’s been jamming together for years. It just sounds so natural.”

Glide Magazine

“Unabashedly honest and direct, The Boxcar Suite has never been more candid and unashamed.”

Nick D’Andrea Celebrates His Decade Long Cult Status Career

Nick D’Andrea has made a name for himself in the indie underground as a cult status artist. Finding a space between the indie-rock and jam scenes, Nick’s heartfelt yet visceral and energetic anthems have won over the crowds of listeners from all walks of life. Whether it’s been with his bands, Nick D’ & The Believers and Doc Robinson, or with his most release solo efforts, Nick D’Andrea’s offerings are real, raw, and masterfully produced, providing his home base of Columbus and the wider indie-sphere something authentic to root for.

After starting a career in education, Nicholas D’Andrea, changed directions and began a career in music in 2013, starting his first band Nick D’ & the Believers. Incorporating acoustic guitars with indie-pop beats and radio ready hooks, Nick was active with the Believers from 2013-16, toured regionally and had songs featured on television shows, including Showtime’s ‘Shameless‘. During that time he also worked as a freelance songwriter with music licensing, and publishing companies.

In 2016 he co-founded the band the more soul-tinged and rhythmically focused Doc Robinson. They released their debut EP Golden Daze in November 2016 and since then released three full length albums, three EPs and several singles. They toured nationally opening for Columbus natives CAAMP, and have had songs featured on television shows, including Netflix ‘Bojack Horseman‘. In 2019 he stepped away from the band to focus on his growing family, and work with music based non profit, We Amplify Voices.

His newest album Aslan (released March of 2021 ) is Nick D’Andrea’s magnum opus on a long and well deserved career. Finding a balance between chill, summery, beach pop and more transcendent, spiritual ballads, Aslan adds a layer of patina to Nick’s catalogue, a maturity and clarity that will excite his most avid listeners for what’s yet to come from the next decade’s worth of creativity and passion.

“Accentuated by just acoustic guitar at first, but building into a strong canvas of keys and synths, this is an instantaneous modern pop song with just a hint of Beach Boys style genius.”

Glide Magazine

“As the reverb swirls and twinkly piano notes peek out from behind the mix, D’andrea speaks of the transition from youth to middle age in a way that is almost heartbreakingly honest.”

Stereo Embers

“The album captures an authentic singer-songwriter storytelling, with his raw vocals and instrumentation revealing his heart and passion for music.”

Arise, Sir!

Arise Sir! doesn’t rely on a single sound to get his anthemic energy out into the world. Founded in the wake of A Healthy Alternative for Better Living, Columbus, Indiana’s Alex Kessler (he/him) began Arise, Sir! as a means to explore rock sounds outside of the emo genre. Similar to predecessors like Say Anything who scribble outside of the pop punk lines, Arise, Sir! challenges the need for categorization, and in a scene that thrives on energy Arise, Sir! delivers in droves.

His debut EP “Something About This Needs to Be Changed”, incorporated elements of post-punk, emo, indie, and heavy pop and solidified the direction Kessler is taking the band. In the ensuing years since its release, Kessler has worked to further concretize his sound through projects with pointed goals. In October of 2020 Arise, Sir! released “Obviously Icarus” a 3-track acoustic EP with the help of fellow DIY Indie-rocker Kicksie. The acoustic driven album settled into a poppier sound, invoking aspects of electronic music and upbeat rhythms and chord progressions. The album was also an exercise in creation, as he purposefully created the album in an off-the-cuff manner that wasn’t focused on perfection while he continued to work on his latest offering “It Could Be So Simple”. Released March of 2021 “It Could Be So Simple” is Arise, Sir! full actualized with Kessler’s most mainstream and accessible effort yet.

This project was probably the toughest to make out of the few I’ve done in my life, but also came together the easiest. No doubt the ease had much to do with the fact that I was working with Casey Cavaliere from The Wonder Years. Surprisingly, working through the music over the internet in the middle of the pandemic wasn’t that difficult.

Knowing he wanted “Simple” to be pop punk a la The Story So Far, old-school Fall Out Boy, and Blink 182’s “Neighborhoods”, Kessler tapped The Wonder Years guitarist Casey Cavaliere to produce the album and perfect pop punk sound.  Arise, Sir! continues to release music with the “post-genre” label Lonely Ghost Records, and the rest of 2021 is full of high hopes for just how far and wide his music will reach.

“With Casey Cavaliere as his ally, Kessler is headed into some exciting territory with Arise, Sir!, as he continues to expand his musical horizons.”

J. HATFIELD – ARTIST RESUME

Hailing from Charleston, West Virginia, singer-songwriter-guitarist J. Hatfield blends folk and country songwriting with alt-rock guitars and a dash of post-rock textures. J. Hatfield draws on influences ranging from Turnpike Troubadours and Horse Feathers to Pearl Jam and Slowdive. With a core band consisting of Travis Egnor on pedal steel and guitar, Tim Dorsey on bass, and Justin Puett on keys, J. Hatfield uses lyrical storytelling and musical dynamics to engross listeners in the tales of various characters.

LISTEN TO SELF TITLED EP

J. Hatfield’s debut self titled EP brings together conventional balladry with dynamic walls of sound. Fingerpicked acoustics and lush string sections, courtesy of Evan Olds’s bowed bass and Alasha Al-Qudwha’s violin, share sonic space with subtle synths and dirty, reverb heavy electrics. The album is rounded out by the tag-team drumming of Travis Oliver and Erik Miller, showcasing their individual talents while still serving the needs of the songs. Greg McGowan at Rose City Recording Co produced the album tastefully by weaving a common thread through the collection.

“For years I had always been the lead guitarist in various bands or recording sessions. When the pandemic hit and all the gigs and sessions dried up I had already been working with Greg McGowan at Rose City Recording on an earlier project. So we decided to keep working and I pulled out five songs I had written but never saw the light of day. The longer the project went the more legitimate it became by adding some of the best players in the area.”

During the last 10 years, J. Hatfield has manned the guitar on stage and in the studio with various bands and artists in West Virginia and Virginia, currently including indie folk band The Parachute Brigade and the alt-rock band Miles Deep. J. Hatfield, with a backing of talented musicians, looks forward to bringing the sounds captured on the album to stages around the country.

“From the outset of this song, it’s clear that Hatfield knows the tradition he carries on through his music. And it’s a delightful sonic palette upon which Hatfield weaves a sorrowful, violent tale of revenge.”

Glide Magazine

“Chockfull of lush and heartfelt tracks, Hatfield pushes the rural area’s root rock vibe with lyrics delving into love, loss, and drama.  The self-titled album soars from start to finish, giving listeners a true look at an artist that is scratching the surface of what’s to come.”

Will Murphy Is Ready To Showcase His Generational Talent To The World

Will Murphy is a generational talent with an unparalleled workman like ethos. An accomplished young, virtuoso guitarist with a penchant for melody and soul, Will Murphy is breaking out as a burgeoning songwriter in his own right. His sound can best be described as an Ed Sheeran-style pop icon with the blues edge of Stevie Ray Vaughn, or perhaps even the next John Mayer in the making.

Born and raised in Montreal, Will was first enveloped by music as a teenager and began writing his own humble first offerings shortly after that inspiration bit. It was pop music that especially empowered Murphy to overcome bullying, a common problem that he hopes his listeners who relate can feel connected to.

I discovered music when I was about 14. Through Ed Sheeran I found a safe haven from what I was going through. His songwriting inspired me to get into it myself and the rest is history.”

As Will started branching out from pop music, he fell equally as in love with the blues, which helped to inform and solidify his trademark sound.

I discovered the blues as my uncle taught me scales on the guitar. Through the blues I fell in love with some of the greats, BB King, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. My love for pop music and blues met at a crossroad called John Mayer. That was the ultimate game changer. Writing hits while playing guitar solos. My love for hip-hop also tinted my music and peppers my musical identity.”

Through these separate but shared love of genres Murphy has been able to let his musical essence shine through regardless of whatever audience he’s been placed in front of. In the past 3 years alone he has played over 500 shows, and whether at a local bar or opening festival slots for the likes of Cardi B and Snoop Dogg, Will Murphy has won over a multitude of fans from all walks of life. His artist resume already boasts a top 20 spot on local Montreal radio, and a winning spot for the esteemed Young Artists Awards. Simply put, Will Murphy is proving his grassroots appeal and staying power as a story teller and a master musical craftsman.

Murphy’s newest output is the culmination of all his varied influences and experiences into one cohesive, accessible, meaningful sound. Whether it’s the heart on sleeve croon of “Bleeding”, the speed-flow rap over chill guitar of “Perfect Girl”, or the rhythmic and gliding soul-pulse on “Call It Pain”, Will shows he’s comfortable playing anything inspiration compels him to.

“My latest singles predominantly circle around the same subject, the truth about love. Bleeding underlines the heart-breaking truth that sometimes hurting is the easier but dangerous route of love. The songs were written around the same time and were mostly, “pick up the guitar and let it all out” types of songs. The acoustic nature of them depicts the naked truth of break ups. “I wish that I was bleeding” is a metaphor to represent the whole, if it hurts it’s most likely easier.

It’s one thing to be a pop-star fitting into a mold, it’s another to be a true, transcendent musical talent; that’s what Will Murphy brings to the table with every hook, every riff, every lyric. He has a love for the music and a love for the work that it takes to build a career, one that’s promising to be long and fruitful.
