Lyncs Reminds Us Not To Worry So Much With Upcoming Single “Prom Queen”

American singer/songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Jacqueline Hynes, aka Lyncs, brings her own blend of daydream choruses, indie-rock vocals, and star-like textures to the forefront. Her powerful, yet wholesome, songwriting showcases her strengths in taking a single moment and blowing it up to a heart-string anthem. Since 2018 she’s been telling her story to try and find what connects us all, most recently with her latest releases “i shouldn’t say it.” and “One More Moment”. Lyncs is currently preparing the release of her upcoming single “Prom Queen”, available for streaming on April 23rd.

LISTEN TO “Prom Queen”

“Prom Queen” is a coming-of-age track with a perspective of moving forward. Moving forward in the realization of what may matter during high school won’t matter as time moves on. With prom comes the pressure of attending and having it be perfect, but it’s also good to know that regardless of how well the experience of it is, it won’t have implications as you go through life after it. It’s harder for some to realize that in the moment versus afterwords. The mood of the track is set with an electric piano, finger snaps, and a vocal melody that weaves seamlessly through it. The chorus introduces heightened dynamics including a full drum beat and additional sound samples while allowing the vocals to carry the track. “Prom Queen” will remind the listener what it was like to be 17 and 18 and going through such a specific moment in time that everyone can reflect on for better or for worse.

“I wrote Prom Queen as an ode to last year’s cancellation of Prom Season and how this year is still looking like it could still be the same outcome. The song starts with reflecting on yourself and how “the grass seems greener” on the other side but you don’t have to change yourself to be there. High school is already hard enough trying to fit in, let alone competing for most prized at a dance that’s already awkward enough. “Prom Queen” is an anthem for those who don’t want to worry about the prom season or even those who worry too much (like I did).” – Lyncs on “Prom Queen”

Born Jacqueline Hynes, the Lancaster, PA native made her public debut releasing, “The Safety EP”, which hit music blogs and playlists across digital platforms. After touring locally and opening for artists such as Young The Giant, New Vices, and August & Alden, Lyncs released international hit, “Waiting For You”, which has been featured across countless playlists and publications such as Spotify’s New Music Friday and Vents Magazine. She made the move to NYC and has since performed at historic venues such as Pianos, Rockwood Music Hall, and The Bitter End, and collaborated with GOLDHOUSE on a remix of her smash “Evergreen”, featured on Spotify Editorial Playlists as well as Billboard. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lyncs has started working with Keith Varon (The Aces, Nightly) on releases for the 2021 year.

“With musical influences like Lorde, Hayley Williams/Paramore, John Mayer, Chelsea Cutler, and others it’s impossible not to feel Lyncs carving out her own place in today’s pop ensemble. Lyncs does want to leave listeners with one final thought, however.”

American Songwriter

“The dreamy, emotive indie pop sound is paired with Lyncs’ stirring vocals, at once wistful and half-fleeting, singing sweetly of the ever so elusive “it,” a feeling too fragile, perhaps, to pin down exactly.”

Melanie Alanna Glenn Brings Honesty and Vulnerability with Debut Album “Solo Dreamer”

Melanie Alanna Glenn is a singer-songwriter with a soft and soothing indie-folk sound. She widens eyes with raw, soulful moments through a combination of originals and occasional covers. For the last seven years, Melanie could be found on stage touring nationally with a 7-piece band, Upstate. In recent years she has been exploring the solo journey while apart from her bandmates during the pandemic. Without a schedule packed with touring, Melanie has been creating more solo material that gently weave truth with fiction.

LISTEN TO “Dreamer” from Glenn’s upcoming album “Solo Dreamer”

“Dreamer is a song of inspiration, even though it stems from a place of hardship. It is an ode to those in Melanie’s life that lift her spirit by staying optimistic and positive through the tumultuous path life can create.

Melanie Alanna Glenn’s eponymous debut album (available April 15th) is a journey of emotion and honesty woven into metaphors, songs, stories, and poetry. The album was recorded in a bathroom in North Adams with artist Ryan Walters, and mixed by musician Tom Hamilton of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. This album harnesses an indie feel that is raw and simplistic with vocals and guitar, and sparse harmonies that allow room for those to harmonize with her as they get to know the album more deeply. The simplicity of the album creates a setting of deep honesty and vulnerability, which are two of Melanie’s core values in life even when it is a hard and uncomfortable path. This album doesn’t steer away from sorrow, but still holds space for hope and inspiration. Enjoy the journey!

“WITH A WARM SOUL-TINGED FOLK CORE, STRONG POP SENSIBILITIES, AND A TASTE FOR GORGEOUS HARMONY, UPSTATE ARE ALL TOO EASY TO FALL IN LOVE WITH. BLENDING FOLK, R&B, GOSPEL, ROCK, AND JAZZ INFLUENCES INTO AN ALLURING BUT OFTEN HARD-TO-CATEGORIZE SONIC IDENTITY, THE BAND HAS GARNERED RESPECTABLE COMPARISONS TO EARLY LAKE STREET DIVE AND PHOX – ACTS WHO, LIKE UPSTATE, BROKE GENRE MOLDS WITHOUT MISSING A BEAT (LITERALLY).”

Lyncs Highlights The Smaller Moments In Life With Upcoming Single “One More Moment”

Since 2018 she’s been telling her story to try and find what connects us all, most recently with her release of “i shouldn’t say it.” Lyncs is currently preparing the release of her upcoming single “One More Moment”, available for streaming on March 19th.

LISTEN TO “One More Moment”

“I write a lot about these small moments in relationships or life that occur, but I think this one is the most impactful yet. All these incredible moments happen in a relationship, lust, love, adventure, laughter, togetherness; until it all stops at the blink of an eye when someone decides it’s over. Until that happened to me I didn’t understand why some people took breakups so hard and then I started really realizing that the last moment is the final time you will both be “together”. So BOOM it hit me, and I messaged Keith Varon, my newest COVID-19 friend, and we got to writing this song together to capture that final moment and make it as impactful as possible. The song starts at the beginning of the night, not thinking anything will happen, until everything changes in one moment and you have to hold on for dear life.” – Lyncs on “One More Moment”

Born Jacqueline Hynes, the Lancaster, PA native made her public debut releasing, “The Safety EP”, which hit music blogs and playlists across digital platforms. Buckets Face Their Anxieties During Quarantine and Come Out Victorious On Debut LP

Filled to the brim with bright, infectious guitar riffs, multi-dimensional structures, and catchy hooks, Buckets is finally ready to unveil their self-titled debut record. Mostly self-recorded and produced, their debut has taken over a year in the making to complete, between several professional studios, apartment setups, and ultimately quarantined-style settings due to the pandemic, but it’s been a labor of love. The collection of 9 tracks provides a powerful exemplification of Buckets’ energetic and explosive sound. Tanner Houghton’s unvarnished and outspoken vocal style, paired with Sasha Massey’s hyper focused lead guitar playing allows the rhythm section (held down by Hiram Sevilla on drums and Mitch Rossiter on bass) to fully explore the dynamic extremes that encompass the band’s take on indie rock. The group’s emotional and intense performance leaves them in a league of their own, and is sure to catch the attention of any and all listeners.

LISTEN TO THE ALBUM
TEASER TRACK “FIGURE IT OUT”

The album’s subject matter is almost a meta commentary on how the album was made, and the world we’ve been living this past year, one of isolation and anxiety. As band leader Tanner Houghton puts it, “the record highlights my struggles with identity, betrayal, heart break, confronting generational trauma, and confronting myself about mistakes I’ve made and people I’ve hurt along the way. All wrapped up in a quarantined bedroom-recorded independently produced 9 song album that we created the bulk of long-distanced. We fought, we laughed, we cried, and together we finally got a tone that we hope evokes as much emotion as we put into it.” This cathartic energy comes through in the form of pure band chemistry, each song painting a much bigger picture of not only a band who can write humungous garage-pop hooks, but of one who can deliver them on record with as much conviction as they can live. Simply put, this is one of those rare bands that sounds as exciting on record as they do live.

The brand new Los Angeles-based indie quartet is made up of seasoned punk players from all across North America. Originally from San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora (Mexico), Seattle, Washington, and Toledo, Ohio, the group converged while in LA through a series of craigslist posts, house parties, and drunken backyard shows. With impassioned plans to tour both the U.S. and Mexico in 2020, Buckets had to put their road warrior intentions on hold and focus on completing their debut album due to COVID-19. Now, with a full length record ready for the world, and a hopeful end in sight to the ongoing pandemic, the band can finally set their sights on moving forward and taking their next steps, knowing they aren’t just another drop in the bucket. Don’t miss Buckets debut self-titled LP, out April 20th on Broom Closet Records.

Yuni Wa’s Unmatched Young Career Reaches Prolific Peak With Afrofuturistic New LP “Context 4”

Being black in electronic music presents all kinds of challenges, mostly of a political nature, but Yuni Wa has navigated through the industry with a deft touch. Equally inspired by 90’s boom-bap hip-hop and modern electronic music, he has more albums out than most artists across any genre (upwards of 4 dozen with over 8 million total streams), and he’s still hungry to progress to the next level of his career. Yuni Wa’s mercurial work ethic makes him one of the most exciting new black musicians that you can find — one driven by the struggles of standing out in an industry that doesn’t always want the oppressed to succeed.

LISTEN TO NEW ALBUM “CONTEXT 4”

Yuni Wa’s new album Context 4 (due out April 30th) is the 4th installment of his “Context Series” that captures his perspective of Afrofuturuism in electronic music. Seeking to make a sound all his own, he found other Afrofuturist artists, Sun Ra and Flying Lotus, as inspirations that have led to his dive into being a Afrofuturist music producer. 19 tracks long and full of captivating musical abstractions, Context 4 shows how far a instrumental album can go if your mind is open enough to the possibilities. Weaving textures, atmospheres, dreamy, euphoric melodies prove to the listener why Yuni Wa has had so much staying power in his young career. It’s equipped with the core characteristics that makes a classic instrumental album.

For the duration of his career, Yuni Wa has been focused on creating “a whole new whirlpool of sounds” as he happily explains. He comes from a spiritual family: his grandfather was a preacher and he grew up in Little Rock in a Southern Baptist household, he spent years in the choir, picking up the essence of how chillingly beautiful that gospel music could be. By the time he was 13 years old, Yuni Wa was ready to start releasing music. His earliest electronic recordings blend the extravagant nature of gospel with his early understanding of the genre that he would come to call his own.

Success in the electronic industry came swiftly for Yuni Wa, even in the midst of some troubling times in high school. He got kicked out for truancy and nearly went right to the prison pipeline. Yuni Wa collaborated with producer Chris Travis when he was just 18 years old and has also done work for Cuz Lightyear, the rap protege of Killer Mike. While connecting with artists with larger platforms, he didn’t slack on his output: he released more albums than ever. By the time that he was 20 years old, Yuni Wa had 39 projects publicly available through Bandcamp, continuously unpacking your expectations of electronic music and repurposing the style from a black lens. His fanbase continued to have explosive growth as fans dug into the story that he spun without words.

Columbus Non-Profit ‘We Amplify Voices’ Uplift Local Youth Talent With “Stay Safe: Songs From The Summer of COVID” Compilation

Beloved Columbus OH non-profit organization We Amplify Voices will be releasing a new compilation album featuring local middle school musicians entitled “Stay Safe: Songs From The Summer of COVID”, due out September 25th. We Amplify Voice provide workshops for these artists in order to create a safe-space for open, real, honest conversations to happen, and to turn those conversations into art.

https://soundcloud.com/thedickandjaneproject/sets/stay-safe-songs-from-the-summer-of-covid/s-xeKOsquwBFf

Executive Director, and pillar of the local Columbus music community, Nick D’Andrea had this to say about how the compilation came together:

“Over the summer we adapted our programming to take place over zoom. During that time our kids were absorbing all of the raw emotions of the moment, both from COVID, and the demonstrations for social justice in response to the murder of George Floyd. What made it especially difficult, was they were each experiencing those events in relative isolation from their peers. The point of our workshops are to create a safe-space for open, real, honest conversations to happen, then to turn those conversations into art. During a relatively normal time in the world, the conversations in our workshops can cover everything from anxiety and depression, to bullying, to the death of a family member, to a parent being incarcerated. What the kids tell us is helpful to them, is being able to share these experiences and the feelings that accompany them with peers in an environment where they don’t feel judged, and where they feel they can be their true selves. Which can lead to the realization that others are having some of the same difficulties they are,  then hopefully they don’t feel so alone. Compassion and understanding can grow from that, and our hope is that the take that with them and share it with others.  In a normal year a collection of songs from our workshops are all over the place. This is the first time that everyone in all of our workshops were focused on the same issues. And I think this album shows the full range of emotions that this moment has made people feel.”

WAV (We Amplify Voices) partners middle school students with professional music producers to create radio-ready songs. Students write the lyrics for the song and guide its artistic direction. The producers collaborate with the students in order to synthesize these ideas into a professionally produced song that is broadcast on local radio and online.

Formerly The Dick & Jane Project, WAV’s mission is to empower students through songwriting. Founded as an after-school music education program by Columbus-based charter school administrator Ben Shinaberry in 2011, WAV has since provided programming in over 25 Franklin County schools, serving between 80-100 elementary and middle school students annually.

Professional local musicians, who serve as program instructors, receive training from WAV staff, and then lead students through a five-session songwriting process, culminating in a recording session at a professional studio. Participants learn writing and teamwork skills and receive professional exposure to music production. They also work with adult leaders representing the music and recording industries, providing experiential learning and insight into these fields.

What is International Overdose Awareness Day? International Overdose Awareness Day, a global event that aims to raise awareness that overdose death is preventable and to reduce the stigma associated with drug-related death.

What are NHRC’s goal?

-To raise awareness about overdose and prevention strategies
-To raise support for harm reduction programs across the nation
-To shine a light on artists that support the work we do

Exclusive quote from Nancy Nwaifejokwu, NHR Director of Development:

“As you know, the past few years have been devastating for the music industry, after losing some of the world’s most beloved artists to drug overdoses. Accidental drug overdoses can happen to anyone at any time. With the recent passing of many well-known artists, it is painfully clear that musicians are susceptible to overdose too.

Like millions of people around the world, musicians use drugs for a variety of reasons. Some use substances recreationally, while others use to cope with stress or other external factors. Some people use drugs to relieve physical pain or manage symptoms of mental health disorders like depression and anxiety. Whatever the reason, stigma and shame surrounding substance use often cause people to use in secret thus increasing the likelihood of a fatal overdose.

National Harm Reduction works to shift the stigma around drug use and prevent overdose. On, August 31, International Overdose Awareness Day we are working with musicians worldwide to raise awareness and support for harm reduction programs across the nation. It is especially important that during this time we remember around the world who are isolated and are unable to access supplies.”

If you are interested in donating to the National Harm Reduction Coalition please visit them online. Additionally, if you have questions regarding this event feel free to contact the team at (212) 377 9130.

The Superweaks Release “Teenage Blob” Video Game EP

PLAY THE GAME

STREAM THE ALBUM

Underground legends The Superweaks have just released their newest feat, “Teenage Blob” a video game EP, the first of it’s kind as far as we’re aware. Thematically “Teenage Blob” perfectly scratches the itch of the pandemic: you’re an amorphous teen with limited funds who wants to get out, see a show, and let loose. Six distinct games for each of the six songs tie together your character’s journey of performing various jobs to get enough cash to get some stylish footwear and a ticket in hand. There are homages to classic games like Paperboy & Guitar Hero as well as dating sims and other niche genres, all with the hand-drawn aesthetics and wholesome charm that only Team Lazerbeam can bring. There’s many a laugh to be had, and the game is chock-full of Easter eggs about the Philadelphia & Cape Town scenes. For those who miss the live music experience, it culminates in an explosive rock show where you can safely crowd-surf from the comfort of your own home.

The music of “Teenage Blob” ranges from pondering loss and impermanence to finally saying “enough is enough” to the injustices of oppression, all with the arena emo backbone of The Superweaks’ thunderous guitars and soaring riffs. Recorded in 2017 it captures a zeitgeist that persists to this day: modern life is unstable and uncertain, but we will not be held back from having a good time. These songs were composed with the forward momentum to carry a video game and to keep a fist aloft and feet stomping in time. Physical copies of the record will be available in early September, as well as a limited edition hand made hot sauce, art zine, and T-shirt for those who spring for the deluxe bundle.

ABOUT THE BAND: Best buds Evan Bernard and Chris Baglivo started The Superweaks as a side project where they wrote, recorded, and released a song every week with the assistance of a rotating cast of musicians from the Philadelphia scene. This precedent defines the band, as a multitude of cameos from some of Philly’s finest musicians became a staple of the band’s roster. After releasing their first EP “The World Is A Terrible Place & I Hate Myself And Want To Die” in 2014 they began performing live and touring the states. A rapid ascent began after the release of their album “Bad Year” in 2015 and they toured with the likes of Joyce Manor, Desaparecidos, Circa Survive, The Get Up Kids, and Modern Baseball. Tragedy struck just after the completion of recording their second LP “Better Heavens” with the passing of Evan’s younger brother and band bassist Corey Bernard in 2016. The band soldiered on for a time, touring Europe with Modern Baseball the following year as well as releasing their single “No Sorrow,” that was meant to put the pain of the prior year to bed. After a much needed break and taking time to heal The Superweaks are returning in force with “Teenage Blob,” their pioneering collaboration with South African video game developer Team Lazerbeam, available digitally this August 13th on Steam.

Cutler Station serve up sizzling new album Meat, No Sides, out July 31

STREAM NEW ALBUM HERE

Cutler Station, the unorthodox yet affable indie-rock four-piece out of Vincent, OH, return with their sizzling new album, Meat, No Sides, out July 31. The new 10-track LP — recorded, mixed and mastered themselves — is an all-you-can-eat buffet of power-pop tunes bursting with rock ‘n’ roll flavor and marinated in the weirdness of working-class Appalachian life.

At the core of each track is a no-fluff recipe of fresh, jittery authenticity and warm, jaunty accessibility. Dual-wielding pedal steel and synth throughout, the band of decades-long friends simmer with a controlled nervous energy — think the corporeal melodic intensity of Guided By Voices paired with the brainy oddness of Devo, all dressed in a smattering of ultra-aware country-western, a la Tyler Childers.

Having performed alongside nationally touring acts like Ona, Adam Remnant and Wayne Graham, Cutler Station hope to finish out the year touring the new album after its July 2020 release.
