UNDIVIDED ATTENTION: Joey Joesph “Self-Titled”
How much music will never truly get the credit it deserves in the modern era? Are there too many bands in general? How does an absolutely masterfully produced record find the people who would obsess over it?
UNDIVIDED ATTENTION is a new LSPR segment where we actually sit down and listen to a full record undisturbed, without distraction (something that’s clearly starting to go by the wayside in our modern world), and give our detailed thoughts on a Zoom call. We thought Joey Joesph’s amazing new S/T LP would be the perfect one to kick things off.
How much music will never truly get the credit it deserves in the modern era? Are there too many bands in general? How does an absolutely masterfully produced record find the people who would obsess over it? These are the questions we mulled over while listening to Joey Joesph’s incredibly brilliant new Self-Titled LP, an album that beautifully ranges from 60’s X late 00’s psych and scuzzy garage meets Beach Boys style pop production.
Joey Joesph is clearly a lifer, the type of musician who couldn’t stop making albums if he tried, regardless if full epic LP’s are “commercially” viable or not. He maybe has more in common with a factory worker than a “pop culture” figure, heading into his studio day in and day out until the vision is complete, not just working on it when he’s “feeling it.” A true craftsman, Joey Joesph lays out the template for how a prolific artist should work, and hopefully how they will be discovered by their perfect audience for the 2020s. He’s a cut above most artists we know and deserves your time — watch our review below.
